In an unprecedented escalation of its ongoing operational meltdown, India’s largest airline IndiGo has cancelled all domestic departures from Delhi Airport until 11:59 pm today (Dec 5, 2025), throwing travel plans into chaos for thousands of passengers.
In a late-morning statement, IndiGo confirmed the shutdown, saying “all IndiGo domestic flights departing from Delhi Airport (DEL) on Dec 5 stand cancelled till 11:59 pm.” The airline apologised to customers and admitted it is attempting to “reboot” its network after days of mass delays, crew shortages and cascading operational failures.
Support for affected flyers
IndiGo says stranded passengers will receive:
· Refreshments
· Rebooking on the next available flights
· Hotel accommodation where required
· Assistance retrieving checked baggage
· Full refunds where applicable
Meanwhile, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) clarified that operations of other airlines remain normal and that only IndiGo’s domestic departures are halted.
Travel chaos expected to peak today
Aviation officials warn that this blanket cancellation is likely to make Dec 5 the worst day yet in the ongoing crisis, with severe knock-on effects on airfares and seat availability on competing carriers across major domestic routes.
Passengers booked on IndiGo from Delhi today are strongly advised not to go to the airport unless they have confirmed updates from the airline. Travellers have been told to contact IndiGo’s customer support or airport ground staff for assistance with rebooking, refunds or baggage collection.
