DR. SWARUP RANJAN MISHRA
DOCTOR, ENTREPRENEUR, EDUCATIONIST
He is a doctor from India who created history by becoming the first Asian to win the parliamentary polls in Kenya. For this gentleman, while Odisha is his place of birth, Kenya is his place of work. He has made Odisha proud by establishing himself as an entrepreneur, industrialist educationist, and Politician.
He is Dr. Swarup Ranjan Mishra, born and brought up in Panchpalli village in Jagatsinghpur. A Gynaecologist by profession, he served a few years in Hinduja before relocating to Kenya, where has been serving for the past two decades. His philanthropic service in the medical sector did not go unnoticed. Dr. Swarup has been His delivery of health services to downtrodden and poor people with as many as 4 hospitals made him a popular figure.
His chain of Hospitals Mediheal Group of Hospitals is the leading largest healthcare service provider in East Africa. What started with one hospital over 14 years ago in Kenya, has now expanded to 10 locations treating more than 2.5 million patients, with plans of expansion across the continent. Dr Swarup has also established around 10 schools for both primary and high school students. This earned him a good name and fame among the Kenyan people and later when he entered Kenyan Politics, his popularity led him to defeat the Kenyan contestant by a huge margin. He managed to win from a constituency where there were no Indians.
But his love for his motherland did not wane in all these years. Dr. Swarup Mishra has done several developmental works for Odisha and has recently donated a huge land towards the religious activities in his native village. He is planning to establish simillar hospitals in Odisha to serve the local poor with medical services of International standard.
