Odisha Kicks Off ₹25,000 Cr Industrial Drive, 50,000 Jobs in Pipeline

Shaping a New Economic Future

Odisha is rapidly emerging as one of India’s leading investment hubs, with the state government actively steering industrial expansion to transform its economic landscape. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is set to lay the foundation stones for 27 major projects across diverse sectors, a move that underscores the state’s ambition to combine industrial growth with inclusive development.

Wide-Ranging Investments Across Districts

The groundbreaking ceremony, to be held at Krushi Sikhsha Sadan in Bhubaneswar, will represent projects spread across 12 districts, including Khurda, Angul, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Ganjam. Together, these ventures involve a cumulative investment of ₹25,379 crore and are projected to generate nearly 51,826 jobs. Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain described the initiative as a milestone for Odisha, emphasizing that the projects will deliver economic opportunities at both urban and rural levels.

Sectors Driving Growth

The projects span critical sectors such as steel, aluminum, food processing, chemicals, renewable energy, and logistics. This diversified approach is designed to maximize value from Odisha’s natural strengths, particularly its mineral reserves, while also ensuring that emerging industries like green energy and agro-processing get equal focus. Officials note that apart from boosting state GDP, these projects will create vital linkages for infrastructure, skill development, and ancillary enterprises.

Building Investor Confidence

The ceremony comes on the heels of the Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, where the state secured investment intents worth over ₹16.73 lakh crore across 593 projects. The fresh set of industrial ventures reflects a conversion of intent into action, strengthening Odisha’s position as a preferred investment destination. By facilitating large-scale employment and supporting small and medium enterprises around these industrial hubs, the government is reinforcing its commitment to inclusive, regionally balanced growth.

Social and Environmental Dimensions

Beyond economic returns, the projects are expected to have a ripple effect on society. With more than 50,000 direct and indirect jobs, local communities will benefit from reduced migration pressures and enhanced access to livelihoods. Skill-based training programs are likely to gain momentum as industries demand a prepared workforce. At the same time, the government has stressed that sustainability will remain central, urging companies to adopt eco-friendly practices and advanced technologies in operations.

Recent Industrial Milestones

This initiative builds on a series of large-scale projects launched in the state over the past few years. Notably, JSW Steel’s mega steel plant in Jagatsinghpur, Vedanta’s aluminum expansion in Jharsuguda, and Adani’s investment in Dhamra Port have significantly boosted Odisha’s industrial profile. Alongside, food processing parks and renewable energy clusters have been established in districts like Koraput and Balasore, showcasing the state’s balanced focus on heavy industry and emerging sectors alike.

A Balanced Vision

The launch of 27 large-scale projects marks more than a phase of industrial expansion; it signals Odisha’s commitment to harmonizing growth, employment, and sustainability. By attracting investments across sectors and ensuring local participation, the state is not only reshaping its industrial base but also setting a model for inclusive development. As CM Majhi takes the stage, the message is clear: Odisha’s rise will be defined by both opportunity and responsibility.
