HEART SURGEON
A Doctor by profession who pioneered in several techniques in cardiac surgery, he is considered as the Number One Heart Surgeon in India. He has performed more than 5000 extremely high risk surgeries and is considered as one of the safest heart surgeon in the world, giving new life to many.
He is Dr. Ramakant Panda, the son of a farmer who has proved that perseverance and persistence can fulfil the most ordinary person’s dreams. His principled and a strict disciplinarian grandfather had a tremendous influence on Dr Panda’s life. He set his goal to be a doctor and joined SCB Medical College for his MBBS degree. His medical journey got wings to pursue his degree in AIIMS, where he was the topper and then he set to USA and UK for giving a shape to his professional career. Dr Panda with his team at Asian Heart Institute has performed many high-profile cardiac surgeries on eminent persons namely Dr Manmohan Singh- the then PM, Tarun Gogoi the former CM of Assam, Lalu Prasad Yadav the significant politician from Bihar. He has to his credit of having performed several complicated and unique surgeries. Every successful surgery made him more passionate to do more with accuracy and innovation.
Other than his professional contributions, he is actively promoting healthy life style for India and also releases educational messages on various occasions. His Konark cancer foundation helps the needy financially and with logistic support. Around 10,000 patients and their families have been benefited since its inception.
For his valuable contributions towards this, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in the year 2010.
