Dr. Digendranath Swain, a prominent space scientist from Odisha, has been awarded the prestigious Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar: Vigyan Yuva- Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar for 2024 in Space Science and Technology. President Droupadi Murmu presented the award, which includes a Medallion and Sanad, at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Recognition of Excellence in Science
In the inaugural edition of the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar, 33 distinguished scientists were honored across four categories: Vigyan Ratna, Vigyan Shri, Vigyan Yuva, and Vigyan Team. Dr. Swain was recognized in the Vigyan Yuva category, specifically the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, which celebrates young scientists for their exceptional contributions to science and technology.
Expertise in Space Science and Engineering
Dr. Swain has made significant strides in the field of experimental solid mechanics, particularly in the context of launch vehicle structures. His work in structural qualification tests using Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and other advanced experimental techniques has been widely acknowledged. Additionally, he has expertise in digital serigraphy systems, optical interferometry, and non-destructive testing methods, making him a key figure in the structural engineering domain at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre.
