Odisha Approves ₹1,191.47 Crore Renewable Energy Projects in Major Policy Push

SWC Grants Green Light to 149.97 MW of Clean Energy Projects Under State’s 2022 Policy

In a significant step toward its green energy ambitions, the 10th Single Window Committee (SWC) meeting chaired by Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary of Odisha’s Energy Department, granted in principle approval to seven renewable energy (RE) projects valued at ₹1,191.47 crore. The announcement signals Odisha’s growing momentum in aligning infrastructure development with sustainable energy goals.

A Milestone in Odisha’s Renewable Energy Journey

Held under the framework of the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy-2022, the latest SWC meeting marks another chapter in the state’s determined shift toward cleaner energy. The newly approved projects include:

·       2 Wind Power Projects totaling 95.7 MW

·       4 Ground-Based Solar Projects totaling 53.97 MW

·       Odisha’s First Battery Storage Project with a capacity of 0.6 MWh

This diverse portfolio highlights the state’s commitment to leveraging its geographical strengths and diversifying its energy mix, an approach designed to meet both environmental goals and rising power demands.

Speaking at the meeting, Vishal Dev reaffirmed the government’s vision to make renewable energy a cornerstone of sustainable economic development. “Renewables are key not just to our energy independence, but to job creation, climate resilience, and long-term growth,” he stated.

Policy Backing and Institutional Support Driving Change

The meeting also reviewed the progress of previously approved projects from the 9th SWC session, reflecting a governance model that emphasizes accountability and execution.

Officials from critical departments—Water Resources, Revenue & Disaster Management, GRIDCO, OPTCL, OHPC, and electricity distribution companies—attended the session, showcasing Odisha’s inter-departmental coordination for fast-tracking implementation.

The Single Window Committee, established under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy-2022, has emerged as a streamlined platform for project approvals, encouraging investor confidence and reducing bureaucratic delays. The state’s nodal agency, GRIDCO, plays a central role in facilitating these clearances and monitoring progress.

With the latest approvals, the SWC has now cleared projects worth ₹12,387.36 crore with a total renewable energy capacity of 1,707.56 MW, reinforcing Odisha’s position as an emerging leader in India’s green energy landscape.

Building a Self-Reliant, Sustainable Energy Future

Odisha’s strategic push in the renewable energy sector is not only transformational for its own energy landscape but also sets an example for other states balancing economic development with environmental stewardship. The latest round of approvals reflects both political will and administrative readiness to power the future with clean, affordable, and locally sourced energy.

As the world grapples with climate imperatives, Odisha’s progress stands as a testament to what visionary policies, institutional synergy, and private sector collaboration can achieve. With its roadmap firmly rooted in the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy-2022, the state is accelerating toward a resilient, self-reliant, and sustainable tomorrow.
