Odisha is set to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next four days. This is due to a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.
As of today, July 19th, the low-pressure area is positioned over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, near the Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts. It is expected to concentrate into a depression within the next 12 hours. This depression will likely move north-westwards and cross the Odisha coast in the subsequent 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Several districts, including Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Boudh, and Puri, have been issued orange warnings for heavy rainfall. Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada are expected to receive particularly heavy rainfall.
Additionally, nine other districts have been issued yellow warnings. Squally weather with wind speeds reaching 40-50 km/h, gusting to 60 km/h, is expected to prevail over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal. This will affect areas along and off the coasts of North Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal during the next 48 hours.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into these regions of the Bay of Bengal and along the mentioned coasts for the next two days.
For tomorrow, the IMD has issued orange warnings for three districts and yellow warnings for at least 13 districts.
The IMD predicts that the low-pressure area will become more marked and continue moving north-westwards towards the Odisha coast over the next two days. The weather department has issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha over the next three days.
