The BJP-led Odisha government, under Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has launched multiple developmental projects aimed at enhancing education, healthcare, and sports infrastructure in the state. In a major boost to his alma mater and the local community, the CM announced financial assistance and laid the foundation for several key initiatives worth Rs 160 crore in Keonjhar’s Anandapur. These projects align with the government’s broader vision of infrastructural development and educational excellence.
Major Development Projects in Anandapur
During his visit to Anandapur, CM Majhi inaugurated 16 projects valued at approximately Rs 42 crore and laid the foundation stones for others worth Rs 118 crore. The key projects include:
· Education Sector: Rs 7 crore allocated for infrastructure development at Anandapur College, his alma mater, to build a multi-purpose hall, seminar hall, and sports ground.
· Healthcare: Rs 2 crore sanctioned for the development of Anandapur sub-divisional hospital.
· Sports Infrastructure: Rs 20 crore dedicated to the complete renovation of Anandapur Stadium.
Commitment to Educational Reforms
Majhi reiterated his government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector and criticized the previous BJD government for not implementing the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Odisha due to political reasons. He emphasized:
· Implementation of PM Usha Yojana to improve higher education quality.
· Reforms in education and examination systems to boost employability based on merit.
· A substantial allocation of Rs 41,273 crore (14.2% of the total budget and 3.9% of GSDP) for education, with Rs 3,655 crore specifically for higher education.
Development of Higher Education Institutions
Apart from Anandapur College, CM Majhi also announced a major initiative for Champua College, where he pursued his graduation. The key announcements include:
· Transformation into a National Excellence Centre to elevate the college’s academic standing.
· Rs 4 crore allocated for constructing a three-storey building to improve infrastructure.
· Introduction of Integrated B. Ed courses along with new streams in Sanskrit and social sciences, in addition to existing courses in commerce, geology, and arts.
