The Odisha government has reaffirmed its pivotal role in Indian hockey by extending its sponsorship agreement with Hockey India until 2036. Originally renewed by former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik until 2033, the sponsorship has now been extended by three additional years under the current administration.
Odisha has solidified its reputation as the epicenter of Indian hockey over the past decade, hosting two consecutive men’s World Cups in 2018 (Bhubaneswar) and 2023 (Bhubaneswar and Rourkela). Earlier this year, the state also successfully hosted the India leg of the FIH Pro League, further enhancing its sature in global hockey events.
The decision to extend the sponsorship was finalized during a significant high-level meeting attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Sports Minister Suraj Suryabansi, and key officials from Hockey India including President Dilip Tirkey and Secretary-General Bhola Nath Singh. Dilip Tirkey expressed profound appreciation to Odisha for its unwavering support, emphasizing the transformative impact of the partnership on advancing hockey in India.
“The Government of Odisha has been a steadfast pillar of support for our sport,” remarked Bhola Nath Singh. “Their commitment to extending our partnership until 2036 underscores their dedication to sports development and nurturing young talent.”
This extended sponsorship agreement underscores Odisha’s enduring commitment to fostering hockey and promoting a robust sports culture within the state and nationwide. By continuing to support high-profile international events like the FIH Pro League and major tournaments, Odisha is not only enhancing its sporting legacy but also boosting its global standing as a preferred destination for world-class sporting competitions.
Odisha’s journey as the “Hockey Capital of India” continues to flourish, with ongoing initiatives aimed at elevating the sport’s profile, enhancing infrastructure, and inspiring future generations of athletes. The extended partnership with Hockey India ensures continuity in efforts to nurture talent, develop grassroots programs, and promote hockey as a sport that resonates deeply within the fabric of Indian society.
As Odisha looks ahead to hosting more prestigious hockey events and expanding its sports initiatives, the extended sponsorship agreement with Hockey India paves the way for sustained growth and excellence in Indian hockey well into the future.
