Festive Bonus for State Workforce
In a move timed perfectly with the festive season, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a three percent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees. The revision, which raises the DA from 55% to 58%, aims to cushion employees against inflation and spread festive goodwill ahead of Diwali. The increase will be effective retrospectively from July 1, 2025, and the arrears will be disbursed in cash with the October 2025 salary, according to an official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.
Immediate Cash Disbursement
The enhanced allowance will be reflected directly in this month’s salary, bringing immediate relief to thousands of employees before the festival. The state government has confirmed that the payment will include arrears for the months between July and October, ensuring that beneficiaries receive the full advantage of the revised rate. The increment covers all regular state government employees across departments and public sector undertakings (PSUs) under the state administration.
Pensioners Also Covered
In addition to active employees, the state has also extended the benefit to pensioners, who will receive a corresponding 3% hike in Dearness Relief (DR). The revision will apply to pensions disbursed in October 2025, ensuring that retired personnel also enjoy the festive financial boost. This measure underscores the government’s commitment to supporting its workforce — both current and former — amid rising living costs.
Widespread Impact
The decision is expected to benefit nearly 8.5 lakh state employees and pensioners, providing a significant morale boost ahead of the celebrations. Government officials have clarified that payroll and pension accounts will be updated automatically, requiring no additional paperwork or applications from beneficiaries. This seamless implementation reflects the administration’s focus on efficiency and welfare-driven governance.
A Timely Gesture of Support
As inflation continues to weigh on household budgets, the Odisha government’s DA hike offers timely financial relief and a morale uplift to its public workforce. Coming just before Diwali, the move not only enhances disposable income but also strengthens the bond between the state and its employees — turning this festive season into one of gratitude, relief, and renewed optimism.
