Odisha to Form Steering Committee for ‘Bikasita Odisha’ Vision Documents

Ambitious Development Goals

The Odisha government is gearing up to create a robust framework for its future growth by forming a steering committee tasked with preparing two critical vision documents: ‘Vision Document 2036’ and ‘Vision Document 2047’. These strategic documents are pivotal to achieving the state’s ambitious targets of a ‘Bikasita Odisha’ (Developed Odisha) by 2036 and a 1.5 trillion-dollar economy by 2047.

Key Meeting and Decisions

The formation of the steering committee was confirmed during a meeting between Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam at the Lok Seva Bhawan on Tuesday. The discussions underscored the importance of strategic planning and the need for a clear roadmap to meet Odisha’s developmental goals.

As reported by the Chief Minister’s Office, the initiative follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive for NITI Aayog to assist Odisha in crafting its vision documents. The Chief Minister emphasized that Odisha possesses significant potential in various sectors, which must be harnessed to achieve the goal of a developed state by 2036 and a leading economic powerhouse by 2047.

Economic Targets and Strategic Planning

Odisha has set a target to reach a 500-billion-dollar economy by 2036, aligning with the centennial of the state’s formation. By 2047, the state aims to scale up to a 1.5 trillion-dollar economy. Achieving these goals will require meticulous planning and the development of comprehensive strategies.

NITI Aayog CEO Subrahmanyam expressed that Prime Minister Modi has a particular interest in Odisha’s development. He emphasized that for India to realize its vision of becoming a developed nation, each state, including Odisha, must experience exceptional growth. NITI Aayog’s support will be crucial in preparing and implementing the vision documents for the state.

Public Involvement and Implementation

To ensure that the vision documents reflect the needs and aspirations of its citizens, the Odisha government plans to conduct extensive public outreach programs. This will involve gathering feedback and suggestions from various stakeholders to create a vision that is both inclusive and actionable.

The steering committee, to be chaired by the Chief Secretary, will be responsible for developing a detailed roadmap and action plans based on the vision documents. The committee is expected to complete its work within three months. The action plans will outline specific initiatives and measures to be undertaken to realize the state’s economic and developmental goals.

By fostering public engagement and strategic planning, the Odisha government aims to lay a strong foundation for its future growth and development. The formation of the steering committee marks a significant step towards achieving the state’s vision of becoming a model of progress and economic vitality.
