An introverted, shy, soft-spoken individual, he has always been looked upon as an ever modest but brilliant problem solver. A quiet perfectionist all along, he has implemented this characteristic into reality throughout his life. His ability to reconcile conflicting elements positioned him at the top of the Indian bureaucracy. He is Pramod Kumar Mishra, fondly known as P.K.Mishra, is the 13th principal secretary to the Prime Minister of India. He is a 1972 batch Indian Administrative Service officer belonging to Gujarat cadre. He started a debating society, “QUEST” while a student of the Gangadhar Meher (G.M.) College, Sambalpur, from where he graduated in 1970, with a first-class rank and distinction in Economics. He was the only student to have earned a first-class degree in Economics at the inter-university level of Odisha.
It was a matter of pride not only for Sambalpur, but also for the entire state of Odisha that Mr Mishra became the first ever Odia to have been appointed as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India. Both a high-ranking civil servant as well as a PhD in economics, he exemplified the best of both erudition and administrative prowess. During his tenure as additional principal secretary, he has been considered to be one of the best bureaucrats in India.
Mr Mishra has served in various key positions for both the Indian and Gujarat governments, with memorable contributions made in disaster management during the infamous earthquake of Gujarat. Subsequently, He got prestigious award for writing a book on this notable job.
A man of few words, vast knowledge in economics, and defined by humble integrity, Mr. Pramod Kumar Mishra holds a prominent place in the Crown Jewels of Odisha special edition of VARINDIA.
