Engagements in Bhubaneswar: Education and Judiciary in Focus

On Thursday, President Murmu attended the 40th Convocation Ceremony of Odisha University of Agricultural and Technology (OUAT) as the Chief Guest. Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister KV Singh Deo, the event celebrated achievements in agriculture and technology. Over 1,000 attendees, including students and faculty, gathered for the convocation, highlighting the university’s academic contributions.

Later in the day, President Murmu inaugurated the Judicial Court Complex in Khurdha District, Bhubaneswar. The five-story state-of-the-art facility boasts modern amenities, including 55 courtrooms, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and landscaped surroundings. It also prioritizes visitor comfort with features like a healthcare center, public restrooms, and a breastfeeding room. The complex’s parking capacity of over 1,000 vehicles and facilities for lawyers, judges, and staff underscore its meticulous planning.

The construction of the Judicial Court Complex, which began in 2017-18 with an initial budget of ₹98 crore, received an additional ₹70 crore allocation in 2020 to enhance parking facilities. This landmark building is set to transform judicial operations in the region.

Navy Day Celebrations in Puri

Before her engagements in Bhubaneswar, President Murmu graced the Navy Day 2024 celebrations in Puri as the Chief Guest. Held at the Blue Flag Beach, the event highlighted the Indian Navy’s operational prowess and commitment to safeguarding India’s maritime interests.

The Navy’s mega Operational Demonstration (Op Demo) captivated the audience with its dynamic display of aerial manoeuvres by MiG-29K and Hawk fighter jets, combat exercises by MARCOS commandos, and amphibious landings. Submarine operations and rocket firing from warships further demonstrated the Navy’s strategic capabilities.

President Murmu was joined by Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the Chief of Naval Staff, and other military dignitaries, making the occasion a significant event for India’s defense forces.

Tributes and Upcoming Initiatives

On December 6, President Murmu will pay homage to the statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at AG Chhak in Bhubaneswar, commemorating his death anniversary. Following this, she will visit her native Mayurbhanj district via Kalaikunda Airport in West Bengal.

Her engagements in Mayurbhanj include interactions with students and villagers in Uparbeda, her ancestral village, as well as meetings with students and faculty of Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Rairangpur. On December 7, she is set to lay the foundation stones or inaugurate several projects, including:

·       Tribal Research and Development Centre in Rairangpur.

·       Dandbose Airport in Rairangpur.

·       Sub-Divisional Hospital in Rairangpur.

Additionally, she will lay foundation stones for three major railway line projects:

·       Bangiriposi-Gorumahisani.

·       Buramara-Chakulia.

·       Badampahar-Kendujhargarh Rail Lines.
