Tragic Death at KIIT University: Allegations of Abuse and Calls for Justice

A Shocking Incident Unfolds

The tragic death of Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year Mechanical Engineering student at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, has sent shockwaves across the campus and beyond. On Sunday evening, Lamsal allegedly took her own life, reportedly due to extreme mental distress caused by harassment from her ex-boyfriend. The incident has sparked massive protests by students demanding justice, as disturbing details continue to emerge.

Leaked Audio Clip: Evidence of Abuse

Amid the growing outcry, a leaked audio recording of a conversation between Lamsal and her ex-boyfriend, Advik Srivastava, has gone viral on social media. In the audio, Srivastava can be heard verbally abusing and humiliating Lamsal, while she breaks down multiple times. Friends of the deceased claim that she endured physical and emotional abuse throughout their three-year relationship, which severely impacted her mental well-being.

Campus Erupts in Protest

By Monday morning, chaos engulfed the KIIT University campus as students took to the streets, demanding transparency in the investigation. Chants of “We Want Justice” echoed through the campus as students accused the university of attempting to suppress crucial evidence. Videos circulating online show students confronting university officials, alleging that Lamsal’s phone was confiscated and not returned, raising suspicions of a cover-up.

University authorities have remained silent on the matter, but security measures have been intensified, with multiple police platoons deployed to maintain order. Meanwhile, social media campaigns calling for mass protests have gained momentum, further amplifying demands for justice.

Ex-Boyfriend’s Attempt to Flee Ends in Arrest

Adding to the controversy, Srivastava was arrested by Bhubaneswar police on Monday, but not before attempting to flee. Hours before his arrest, he had posted a flight ticket to Kolkata on social media, suggesting he was aware of the unfolding events and trying to escape legal action.

Police Assures Fair Investigation

Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pinak Mishra has assured that authorities are taking swift action. “As per the students’ demands, all incriminating materials, including mobile phones and laptops, have been seized to prevent evidence tampering. We have carefully documented the situation, counselled students, and will move forward based on the post-mortem report,” Mishra stated.

A Call for Justice and Change

Lamsal’s tragic death has ignited conversations about campus safety, mental health, and the accountability of institutions in protecting students from harassment. The incident underscores the urgent need for strict action against abusive relationships and university policies that prioritize student welfare. As investigations continue, the hope remains that justice will be served, bringing closure to the grieving family and preventing such tragedies in the future.
