SAND ARTIST
Hailing from one of the coastal cities of Odisha, Puri, this man fell in love with the sand of the sea shore while playing. He converted the sand as his strength and it became his canvas for art. Despite not attending any school, he established an Art Institute and acclaimed to be known as the inventor of sand art in India.
Through the vast sea sand canvas, he depicted the art of the 7th century that is almost extinct. He mastered this sand art all by himself without any mentorship. He experimented with his art form through his creative ideas and excelled in it. He has become an international figure in sea shore sand art. From what started with sand art, gradually led to designing hundreds of sand sculptures.
He is the Indian Sand artist from Puri, Sudarshan Patnaik, who made Odisha proud by his unique, grand, charming seashore sand art creations and brought highest glory for the entire country. Through his sand art forms Sudarshan conveys important messages on social issues and current happenings, something which no one could have imagined before.
The Government of India honored Sudarshan with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award in the year 2014. The list of his achievements is remarkable and endless which includes the Guinness World Record for world’s tallest sand castle at Puri beach. With an aim to promote and educate the young people with interest in Sand Art he founded “The golden Sand Art Institute” in Puri which attracts thousands of students every year. Thanks to him, Sand art is gaining a revolutionary form and publicity worldwide.
