A legendary name in the Odia film industry, he was always keen to occupy the protagonist’s position in dramas since childhood. He has since then been a household name in the cinema world. During higher studies, a telegram from his friend changed his life forever. This fabulous actor earned his repute with roles in more than 135 Odia films to his credit, playing dynamic characters, opposite to almost all the leading heroines. The man who has dominated the Odia film industry for two decades is a super star and lives in every Odia’s heart.
He is Uttam Mohanty, born in the town of Baripada, Odisha, who grew up to be a great actor. In late 1975, while pursuing Chartered Accountancy from Ludhiana with his brother is when he had received a telegram intimating him about an opportunity for him in the film industry. As his brother was not willing to let him enter this field. Uttam somehow managed to convince him and luckily his first film ‘Abhimaan’ was a box office hit. He never had to look back again.
He was especially adored for his effortless naturalism in front of the camera and a characteristic urbanity that broke free from the prototypical Odia screen hero of the past. He went on to form successful screen pairs with many leading actresses. He excelled in many versatile roles like romantic, action, family drama etc.
He is still active on screen with character roles in alignment with his age, and he is performing in television serials. Along with Odia films he also holds around 30 Bengali films to his credit.
