With the Odisha Assembly elections drawing near, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has unveiled its manifesto, outlining a comprehensive vision for the state’s future. At an event held at the Congress Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, OPCC president Sarat Pattanayak and other party leaders presented the manifesto, which comprises 90 promises and nine “guarantees” aimed at addressing key issues and concerns of the electorate.

The manifesto encompasses a wide range of commitments aimed at uplifting various sections of society and driving inclusive growth. Key promises include providing a bonus in addition to the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 3,000 per quintal for paddy, waiving agricultural loans, and offering a monthly pension of Rs 2,000 to farmers. Additionally, the Congress pledges to provide 200 units of free electricity to domestic consumers and employment opportunities for around 5 lakh youths, along with an unemployment allowance of Rs 3,000 per month for three years.

Addressing social welfare concerns, the manifesto promises a monthly allowance of Rs 2,000 to elderly citizens, widows, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and female heads of households under the Gruha Lakshmi Yojana. It also guarantees LPG cylinders at a subsidized rate of Rs 500 each to every family and free health services up to Rs 15 lakh in both government and private hospitals.

Furthermore, the Congress manifesto underscores its commitment to empowerment and social justice by pledging 27% reservation for backward classes in educational institutions and the service sector. Within the first 100 days of assuming power, the party guarantees to undertake a comprehensive social and economic survey and provide essential food items such as rice, salt, cooking oil, pulses, and turmeric to the poor.

Speaking at the manifesto release, Ajoy Kumar, the party’s state in-charge, reiterated the Congress’s commitment to fulfilling its promises, including the provision of bonuses along with MSP for paddy and the waiver of agricultural loans. The party also stands firm on its pledge to waive loans for women’s self-help groups (SHGs) and ensure access to affordable healthcare for all residents of Odisha.
