Sometimes even the slightest change can bring a big difference in our lives. Playing hockey since the age of 12, her potential in the sport led her to become one of the biggest hockey stars of the Indian women hockey team. She is a two times Olympian, a one time Commonwealth Games and two times Asian Games player. She is now the vice captain of Indian Women’s hockey team.

She is Deep Grace Ekka. In 2011, Deep Grace Ekka made her first senior international debut at Under-18 Asia Cup held in Bangkok. In her first tournament, India won the Bronze medal and was promoted to the senior team in the same year.

Fighting all odds of criticism, she never lost hope; rather her dedication and passion for the sport grew stronger. Her never give-up attitude and consistent performance proved for her as the strong wall in the Indian Team’s defence. The most experienced Defender, Deep Grace Ekka achieved the milestone of completing 150 International Caps for India. She is the part of the Indian team who has created many different milestones by achieving many ‘Firsts’ in the successful journey of Indian hockey.

Her devotion, dedication and love for hockey is the secret of her success. She has numerous international and national eye catching performances and is highly acclaimed by the famous hockey critics and coaches worldwide. Deep is an inspiration to thousands of hockey players.

Along with various awards, she is the proud winner of the Arjun Award, the second highest sporting honour of India, for her outstanding performance. VARINDIA is very happy to recognise this sports star as the Crown Jewel of Odisha, in its special edition.
