POLITICIAN

He is a famous Indian politician, lawyer, management consultant, economist, educationist, social worker, and Member of Parliament from Odisha. Before entering
politics, he had a long, remarkable career as a Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) official, being instrumental in detecting much discussed scams like the fodder scam in Bihar and that of the Letter of Credit, Assam. While he worked with the United Nations and World Bank on global audit assignments, he was also the team leader of India’s audit mission to many countries.

He is Amar Patnaik, an astute administrator, highly skilled researcher and a globally working leader, and attracted much discussion for voluntarily retiring nine years before completion of his service and joining politics, to serve the people in a different way.

As a Rajya Sabha member, he is Odisha’s voice in the Parliament and has been a part of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, and a member of
Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Environment and Climate Change. Mr Patnaik’s educational journey covered St. Stephen’s College, Delhi; St. Xaviers Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar; Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, USA; and, Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore; besides John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He has high command over English, Hindi, Oria and Bengali.

He has worked with slum children and developed unique e-auto ambulances, for easier access of the people of the Sundargarh interiors to the nearest health points.

He also promoted a trust in Odisha to implement and execute his ideas for the downtrodden, from grants and donations received from companies under their CSR
funds as well as from private philanthropists.
