DR. AJIT KUMAR MOHANTY
SCIENTIST
Odisha is a land of abundant scientists who have made the state proud in the field of innovations, discoveries and touching new heights in different spheres around the globe. He is one of the personalities who has reached the highest post of the India’s premier organisations. This Scientist from Odisha has been laced in the top achievers list globally. He has gone a long way from being a graduate from BARC training school to be placed as the Director of BARC.
He is Dr Ajit Kumar Mohanty, a distinguished Scientist. Born in Odisha and completed his Master’s degree in Physics from Ravenshaw College. Ever since he shifted to BARC, he dreamt of establishing himself as one of the most famous stars in the world of nuclear science. He proved himself as one of the prominent uclear Physicist.
Dr Mohanty worked in several areas of Nuclear physics and covered various theories and functions at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), and has one few experiments at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), USA and CERN, Geneva.
Dr. Mohanty held several honorary positions at various organizations. He served the Indian Physics Association (IPA) as General Secretary and later held the position of President. He had been the Spokesperson for India-CMS collaboration, Director, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, and Director, Physics Group, ARC. He has twice been the CERN Scientific Associate.
Dr. Mohanty is a recipient of the Young Physicist Award from the Indian Physical Society (1988), the Indian National Science Academy Young Scientist Award 1991) and the Homi Bhabha Science and Technology Award of the Department of Atomic Energy (2001).
