His strong command over legal strategies made him deserve the prestigious position of the Lieutenant Governor of the newly formed Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. His effective delivery of major responsibilities while serving as a Gujarat Cadre IAS, made him shine as the 14th CAG of India.
He is Girish Chandra Murmu. Born in a small village, Betanati, Mayurbhanj District of Odisha, he belonged to a Santa family, and was the eldest among his eight siblings. He was an IAS officer posted in Gujarat, and his professional mission became more challenging when he was made the Joint Secretary of the Gujarat Home Department. But his intelligence and pragmatism made him successful in all his tasks.
For the people of Mayurbhanj, the district with the second largest tribal population, in Odisha, his appointment as the 1st Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has been a matter of joy and pride for all. “A tribal boy got a big opportunity.
