India to Observe ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ Annually on June 25

The Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has announced the annual observance of ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ on June 25. This day will honor the millions who struggled to revive democracy during the Emergency imposed on the same date in 1975.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a post on the X platform, stated that on June 25, 1975, the then Prime Minister imposed the Emergency, stifling the spirit of Indian democracy. During this period, numerous individuals were unjustly imprisoned, and the media’s voice was forcibly silenced. Shah emphasized that the decision to observe ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ is a tribute to those who endured the harsh realities of the Emergency era.

Shah remarked that the government’s initiative, led by Prime Minister Modi, aims to honor the resilience and spirit of those who faced severe persecution while striving to restore democracy. The observance of ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ will serve as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding individual liberties and democracy, ensuring that such dictatorial actions are never repeated in India.

The announcement underscores the significance of remembering and honoring the sacrifices made by countless individuals during one of India’s darkest periods. This annual observance will help keep the flame of individual freedom and democratic values alive in the hearts of all Indians.
