Hailing from a rural Indian village of Odisha, this man was enthusiastic to bring smile and happiness to the children. His zeal to entertain everyone encouraged him to foray into Cinema. Fortune favoured him to become the new age sensation of Indian Cinema. For a man who started his career as a camera attendant in Delhi, he soon rose to become an iconic figure with more than 70 films to his credit as Director. His debut feature film was highly acclaimed and 24 international awards. Thereafter there was no looking back and he created milestones by producing various films based on social issues such as climate change, child labour, education, and many other developmental issues in India. Not only in India but his films are well received by the audience worldwide.

He is Nila Madhab Panda, an acclaimed Odia director and producer involved in making mainstream and parallel Hindi Films. His first Odia film Kalira Atita had been submitted to the Oscars 2021 in the General Category and was available for Academy screening. Most of his films draw inspiration from his own life. He was concerned about the children’s dream which propelled him to direct his first Hindi film ‘I am Kalam’ that won 34 international awards along with a national award. Mr Nila Madhab earned the recognition as a brilliant director and producer. He felt the need to make more children centric films and so he turned his focus more towards it.

Shaken by the crisis the nation faced during Covid, Mr Nila Madhab contributed by supplying Oxygen cylinders, medicines, food packages etc. in Delhi. This philanthropic act was driven by his thought – ‘helping man in distress is not charity- It is what we must do.’

This internationally acclaimed film director has become a jury member of many national and international film festivals. Besides winning many national and international accolades, he was felicitated with the Padma Shri in 2016 for his contribution in Cinema. The man who has earned a name for himself in the world of Cinema, is also honoured with The Crown Jewels of Odisha by VARINDIA.
