In a recent Manufacturing Conclave organized by ASSOCHAM, Mr. Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Managing Director of IPICOL and IDCO, shed light on Odisha’s outstanding performance in the realm of business facilitation. He proudly proclaimed Odisha as one of the leading states in India for its favorable business environment and facilitation efforts. Traditionally renowned for its mining and metal-based industries, Odisha is now diversifying into sectors such as apparel manufacturing and food processing, showcasing excellent performance in areas like IT and skill development. Mr. Poonia highlighted the state’s competitive labor costs and emphasized the government’s focus on skilling and reskilling initiatives, coupled with attractive incentives across various sectors.
Chairman of the Odisha State Development Council at ASSOCHAM, Mr. Pankaj Lochan Mohanty, underscored Odisha’s remarkable manufacturing sector, contributing 14.42% to the state GDP and boasting a growth rate of 7.82%, surpassing national averages. He noted a substantial influx of investments totaling Rs 4.74 lakh crore between 2015 and 2022, indicative of the state’s attractiveness to investors.
The conclave centered on discussions encompassing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices, smart logistics, circularity, and advanced digitization, all of which are crucial as India strives to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and Net Zero by 2070.
Mr. Arijit Basu, Chairman of ASSOCHAM Manufacturing Hub Council, Eastern Region, highlighted the steady growth trajectory of India’s manufacturing sector, projecting a Gross Value Added of US $266.40 billion in 2024 and an industrial output of US $1,360.00 billion in the same year, with a focus on sustainable growth and innovation.
Ms. Perminder Jeet Kaur, Senior Director at ASSOCHAM, commended Odisha for producing innovative leaders who have made significant strides in various industries. She emphasized the importance of collaboration to strengthen the manufacturing ecosystem, urging stakeholders to foster innovation and sustainability.
The conclave aimed to foster strategic thinking and promote sustainable initiatives, with a focus on stakeholder impact and inclusive growth. It sought to propel a vision for advancing the engineering and manufacturing community amidst globalization, with an emphasis on catalyzing investments and promoting commendable ESG practices, smart logistics, innovation, and inclusive growth.
The event also saw the release of a report titled “Reimagining Manufacturing: Smart Approaches for the Next Phase” by ASSOCHAM-Resurgent.
