Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Puri-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat train via videoconference on March 12, marking a significant milestone in India’s railway network expansion. Alongside this, he will unveil several other railway projects and extensions during his visit to Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The Puri-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat train is among the 10 new Vande Bharat trains that PM Modi will flag off during his visit to Ahmedabad. The train will operate six days a week, enhancing connectivity between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
The Ministry of Railways had previously approved the introduction of the Vande Bharat train between Puri and Visakhapatnam, recognizing the need for improved connectivity between the two regions.
In addition to inaugurating the Puri-Visakhapatnam route, PM Modi will also extend the routes of four existing Vande Bharat trains, further strengthening the rail connectivity across different parts of the country.
This event follows PM Modi’s launch of six new Vande Bharat trains in December 2023, which included routes such as Katra-New Delhi, Amritsar-Delhi, Coimbatore-Bengaluru, Mangalore-Madgaon, Jalna-Mumbai, and Ayodhya-Delhi, among others.
Furthermore, PM Modi will dedicate and lay the foundation stones for various railway projects valued at over Rs 85,000 crore. These projects, aimed at enhancing infrastructure and connectivity, include sections of the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) and the establishment of railway workshops, loco sheds, and coaching depots.
During his visit to Gujarat and Rajasthan, PM Modi will inaugurate two new sections of the Dedicated Freight Corridor: the Sahnewal section of the Eastern DFC spanning 401 kilometers, and the New Makarpura to New Gholvad section of the Western DFC covering 244 kilometers.
Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the new Phaltan-Baramati line and other vital railway infrastructure projects. The Western DFC’s Operation Control Centre (OCC) in Ahmedabad will serve as the focal point for monitoring and managing these initiatives.
PM Modi’s engagements underscore the government’s commitment to modernizing and expanding India’s railway network, facilitating economic growth, and enhancing connectivity across the country.
