Sita Soren, Jama MLA and sister-in-law of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren made headlines on Tuesday as she officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking her departure from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Alongside her party switch, she also tendered her resignation from the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, citing moral reasons.

In her resignation letter addressed to the Jharkhand Assembly speaker, Sita Soren expressed her disillusionment with the JMM, claiming she hadn’t received the recognition she deserved after serving the party for 14 years. She emphasized that her decision was motivated by a desire for respect, particularly for the hard work of her late husband, Durgashwar ji.

Highlighting her confidence in BJP leaders like JP Nadda, Amit Shah, and Devendra Fadnavis, Sita Soren expressed optimism about the party’s vision under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. She underscored the need to “save Jharkhand” and contribute to India’s growing reputation globally.

Reacting to Sita Soren’s defection, JMM leader Manoj Pandey expressed disappointment and hoped for her reconsideration, stressing the respect she had garnered within the party. However, he cautioned against aligning with those opposing the JMM, warning that it could be detrimental to her interests.

Meanwhile, JMM MP Mahua Maji expressed shock over Sita Soren’s move, attributing it to the party’s current crisis. She urged patience among party members and emphasized the strength of the JMM, expressing confidence in Hemant Soren’s leadership to continue the alliance government.

Sita Soren’s defection comes amidst preparations for the upcoming elections in Jharkhand, with the BJP already naming candidates for 11 out of 14 seats. The electoral process is scheduled to unfold in four phases, spanning from May 13 to June 1.
