A key highlight of the inauguration was the distribution of land rights certificates to 21,427 families residing in slums across Cuttack, Sambalpur, Berhampur, and Rourkela. This move, coupled with the establishment of 626 Biju Adarsha Colonies spanning 26 cities, is set to benefit approximately two lakh families while effectively eradicating slums from urban areas.
One of the flagship projects unveiled is the 24×7 drinking water supply facility inaugurated in Berhampur, now the eighth city in Odisha to be covered under the ‘Drink from Tap’ Mission. CM Patnaik emphasized the significance of this initiative, citing its role in bolstering public health by addressing a critical aspect—access to clean drinking water, which accounts for 50% of health issues.
Further underlining Odisha’s commitment to comprehensive urban sanitation, CM Patnaik launched the Rs 4,000 crore Odisha Integrated Sanitation Improvement Project in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Executed with the assistance of the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), this project integrates advanced infrastructure including an underground sewerage system, sewage treatment plants, and enhanced drainage facilities, significantly enhancing the quality of life for residents.
The inauguration ceremony also marked the commencement of various other vital projects, including drinking water schemes in Jharsuguda, Brijrajnagar, and Belpahad, benefitting 2.75 lakh residents collectively. Additionally, 3,699 new road projects and 6,961 civic amenities projects were dedicated across multiple cities, furthering the state’s infrastructural development agenda.
Laying the foundation stone for 27 water supply projects worth Rs 1,164 crore in 24 cities further underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring access to basic amenities for all citizens.
