A Step Toward Digital Empowerment
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday conveyed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their support in setting up a National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Centre in Balasore. Calling it a “matter of pride” for Odisha, Majhi stressed that the initiative will strengthen digital skilling and open new horizons of opportunity for the state’s youth.
Taking to social media, the Chief Minister noted that the facility would empower students across Odisha, equipping them with the latest technical knowledge and preparing them to contribute to the state’s rapidly expanding IT ecosystem.
Nationwide Expansion of Digital Training Hubs
The Balasore centre is part of a broader push by the Union government to spread digital learning opportunities across the country. On Thursday, Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually inaugurated five new NIELIT centres located in Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Balasore (Odisha), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Daman (Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu), and Lunglei (Mizoram).
With this expansion, the institute—operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)—continues to strengthen its role in human resource development and advanced training in Information, Electronics, and Communication Technology (IECT).
Balasore Centre: Building Future-Ready Skills
The newly launched Balasore facility is expected to run specialized, industry-aligned programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Semiconductors. It will also provide students with access to virtual labs and flexible learning modules, making high-quality digital education more inclusive.
By focusing on emerging technologies, the centre aims to nurture a workforce ready to take on global challenges while also supporting the state’s ambitions of becoming a digital hub.
A Foundation for Odisha’s Digital Journey
The establishment of the NIELIT Centre in Balasore marks a significant step toward building a digitally skilled Odisha. It not only reflects the Centre’s commitment to regional development but also promises to empower the youth with advanced skills that align with India’s broader digital future. With strong policy support and modern infrastructure, Odisha is poised to benefit immensely from this initiative.
