Two-Day Holiday for Rath Yatra Announced
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has declared a two-day public holiday in Odisha for the Rath Yatra, scheduled for July 7 and 8, 2024. This announcement was made after the final joint meeting for Rath Yatra 2024, which took place at the Puri Municipality Hall on Tuesday.
Final Preparations Underway
During the meeting, administrative preparations for the world-renowned annual chariot festival of Lord Jagannath and his siblings were reviewed. This event, which attracts devotees from across the globe, will see significant changes to improve the overall experience.
Focus on Discipline and Security
The meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister, emphasized the need for a disciplined and well-organized festival. Discussions covered everything from chariot construction to the procession’s security arrangements. Officials from various departments presented action plans to ensure a smooth celebration.
No VIP Entry at Puri Temple
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced that there would be no VIP entry into the Puri Jagannath temple during Rath Yatra. This decision aims to prevent disruptions and ensure that all devotees can have an unobstructed view of the deities. The focus this year is on providing essential amenities for women and minimizing any issues caused by VIP movements.
Servitors’ Cooperation and Security Measures
The servitors have pledged their full support for the festival. They have assured authorities that there will be no overcrowding on the chariots, which could otherwise hinder the darshan of the deities. Law Minister Harichandan has also confirmed that all necessary preparations, including the routes and arrangements for viewing, are in place.
President Droupadi Murmu to Participate
President Droupadi Murmu is expected to participate in the Rath Yatra celebrations. Her visit to Puri will include several other engagements during her stay in Odisha from July 6. Preparations for her participation have been finalized, ensuring a smooth and organized event.
Streamlined Celebrations
With only a few days left for the Rath Yatra, the preparations are in the final stages. This year’s focus on discipline and accessibility aims to enhance the experience for all participants, making the grand event memorable and well-organized.
