The political arena in Delhi is ablaze with controversy as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bhardwaj has made alarming claims suggesting a concerted effort aimed at the ‘slow death’ of the capital’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal. These assertions come hot on the heels of a series of accusations and legal skirmishes revolving around Kejriwal’s health and his current custodial status.
In a press conference that grabbed headlines, Delhi’s cabinet minister Bhardwaj didn’t mince words when he declared, “I want to say with full responsibility that a conspiracy is underway for the slow death of Kejriwal.” These statements echo sentiments previously voiced by another AAP leader, Atishi, who accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a sinister plot to eliminate Kejriwal by allegedly withholding vital medical treatment.
The plot thickened when it was disclosed that Kejriwal, currently under judicial custody, had petitioned the authorities at Tihar jail for access to insulin and regular medical consultations. Despite his urgent pleas, the ruling on his request has been postponed until April 22, while his custody extends until April 23.
Underlining the gravity of the situation, Bhardwaj cautioned about the potential health consequences if Kejriwal’s medical needs continue to be overlooked. “If a patient with high sugar does not take medicine, his body parts can get damaged. This can happen to Arvind Kejriwal ji as well,” he warned, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
Adding fuel to the fire, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleged that Kejriwal intentionally consumed foods high in sugar to elevate his blood sugar levels, purportedly as a strategy to bolster his case for bail. Responding to these accusations, Kejriwal’s legal counsel, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, launched a scathing attack, condemning the denial of basic medical assistance to his client as “petty” and unprecedented in the annals of Indian democracy.
As tensions escalate and legal battles intensify, the fate of Arvind Kejriwal hangs precariously in the balance. With allegations of political vendetta and conspiracy casting a long shadow over the proceedings, the case has captured the nation’s attention and sparked widespread concerns regarding the intersection of politics and public health.
As the country anxiously awaits the verdict on Kejriwal’s medical requests, the unfolding saga underscores the challenges and complexities inherent in governance within a fiercely contested political landscape, where even matters of health become battlegrounds for ideological warfare, leaving the future uncertain and rife with speculation.
