In response to the escalating post-poll violence in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken decisive action by forming a specialized committee tasked with investigating the disturbing incidents. The committee, headed by BJP President JP Nadda and comprising prominent leaders Biplab Kumar Deb, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Brij Lal, and Kavita Patidar, aims to delve into reports of violence targeting opposition workers and voters following the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Accusations against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress (TMC) have intensified, with the BJP alleging a deliberate lack of intervention and oversight that has allowed TMC-aligned perpetrators to act with impunity. The situation has prompted the Calcutta High Court to extend the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) until June 21, with a scheduled hearing on June 18 to address the mounting unrest.

Highlighting the severity of the situation, the BJP’s statement underscored Mamata Banerjee’s alleged indifference amidst widespread incidents of violence. The party has condemned what it describes as a targeted campaign against BJP workers, noting that even attempts by West Bengal’s Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, to raise concerns at Raj Bhavan were reportedly thwarted.

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has also weighed in, criticizing the TMC for obstructing victims of violence from meeting him at Raj Bhavan, despite his prior permission. Governor Bose has taken proactive steps to engage directly with victims residing in shelters across various districts, including Burrabazar, to hear their first-hand accounts of the turmoil.

The unrest erupted immediately after the announcement of Lok Sabha results on June 4, with incidents reported in districts such as Cooch Behar, North and South 24 Parganas, and Jhargram. Both BJP and TMC supporters have been involved in clashes, leading some BJP members to seek refuge in party offices across the state to evade reprisals.

Amidst these developments, the formation of the BJP committee signals a concerted effort to investigate the violence comprehensively. It underscores the party’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in West Bengal while ensuring accountability for those responsible for disrupting the electoral process and endangering public safety.

As tensions persist and political maneuvering continues, the focus remains on swift action and justice to address the aftermath of the elections and uphold democratic values in the state.
