Odisha is likely to experience another heat spell from Tuesday, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar said.

·       In a statement the IMD emphasized, “The maximum day temperature is likely to rise by 3°C-5°C during the next 3 to 4 days and no large change thereafter at many places.”

·       As Odisha readies itself for the dual challenges of soaring temperatures and sporadic rainfall, proactive measures and adhering to safety protocols during rainfall become paramount.

As the summer heat tightens its grip, Odisha finds itself once again on the radar of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with a cautionary forecast signaling the likelihood of another heat spell looming from Tuesday onwards. The regional center of the IMD in Bhubaneswar has issued a detailed advisory, projecting a significant surge in day temperatures by 3°C to 5°C over the course of the next three to four days.

In a statement released via its official channels, the IMD emphasized, “The maximum temperature (day temperature) is likely to rise by 3°C-5°C during the next 3 to 4 days and no large change thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha.” While the spike in temperatures is alarming, the IMD reassures that the immediate onset of heatwave conditions is improbable.

Concurrently, amidst the anticipation of rising mercury levels, certain pockets across the state are bracing for a different atmospheric phenomenon—scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

The forecast delineates specific areas expected to be affected, with Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada earmarked for potential light to moderate rain/thundershowers on Tuesday. Conversely, dry weather patterns are anticipated to persist across the remaining districts of Odisha. Wednesday presents a similar outlook, with Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Bargarh likely to experience bouts of light to moderate rain/thundershowers, while the rest of the region remains relatively dry.

Adding to the meteorological complexity, Odisha recently witnessed moderate rainfall attributed to the impact of Severe Cyclone ‘Remal’, further underscoring the need for heightened vigilance and preparedness among residents and authorities alike.

As Odisha readies itself for the dual challenges of soaring temperatures and sporadic rainfall, proactive measures such as staying hydrated, seeking shelter during peak heat hours, and adhering to safety protocols during rainfall become paramount. The IMD’s timely advisories serve as crucial guides in navigating the dynamic weather patterns, ensuring the well-being and resilience of communities across the state.
